ON THIS DAY IN ELVIS HISTORY November 01

November 01, 1956
Elvis bought a new Harley Davidson. Accompanied by Nick Adams on the old motorcycle, Elvis took Natalie Wood for a ride.
Fred Woodward, a local police inspector and personal friend of Elvis had a fatal heart attack. When Elvis heard the news he rushed into the hospital and tried to comfort the widow. "He was a great guy, a good friend" he said, obviously distraught.
Elvis spent a final weekend in Palm Springs before going out on the November tour.
Elvis flew to Washington D.C. to visit Joyce Bova. He was accompanied by Sonny West and James Caughley. He checked into the Hotel Washington using the name Jon Burrows.
Elvis and Linda returned to Los Angeles.
Elvis was released from the Baptist Memorial Hospital. Somewhere during this week Elvis and Linda went to Sam Thomson's parent's house. They spent the evening relaxing and singing blues numbers, as well as other old favorites like I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry and Spanish Eyes. Elvis and Linda even sang a duet together, which was taped by Sam Thompson.
Elvis spent much of the next 3 weeks flying back and forth between Memphis, Denver, Palm Springs and Dallas.
